Our World Underwater

The winner of the Middle Coast Award has been selected, and this year, Our World – Underwater has recognized a diver who has worked his whole life to benefit the diving industry and to help thousands of divers. You’ll have to wait until the show to find out the name of the winner of this special award!

Our World – Underwater has also chosen the recipient for the Annual Outstanding Achievement Award. R.T. (Phil) Nuytten has dedicated most of his life to the underwater world. He has logged many thousands of hours underwater as a working commercial diver, and as a developer of underwater equipment and techniques. He is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of the modern commercial diving industry and a significant force in the creation of new technology.

The singing cowboy “Pup” will be back to sing at the kickoff party and up front during the show with SCUBA Radio. Pup will also play at the back bar Saturday afternoon.

OWU is well known for the educational presentations, and this year will be no different. The Saturday Meeting for business people at the Hyatt will include some great topics on conducting business in the new economy and much more. DAN programs will be offered all weekend and our Wonders of the Sea and Shipwreck rooms have some fantastic presenters. You will want to join OWU in the DIVE Around the World educational seminars along with the topics discussed in the DIVE Medicine room and Travel room.

The host hotel is the Hyatt Regency O’Hare, in Rosemont, Illinois. This hotel is attached to the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, and has a convenient indoor walkway to make getting to and from the show easy.
