While Jacques Cousteau’s legendary vessel Calypso may or may not sail again, it’s still inspiring people.

Cousteau admirer Luis Peña created this amazing Lego model of the ship on which the legendary explorer sailed the seas. The 1-to-100 scale replica is complete with a mini version of Cousteau's Hughes helicopter and Denise submarine. And awesome Lego versions of Cousteau and his crew round out the creation.

“When I was a kid, one of my favorite TV shows was The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau,” wrote Peña. “With these beautiful memories in mind I decided to build a Lego model of Calypso. I think a 1,000 piece model gives the best balance between detail and feasibility of approval in Lego Ideas.”

With enough support, the next generation of divers could make their own Lego Calypso.

The model was submitted to the Lego Ideas site, where users can vote on projects. If the project receives 10,000 supporters – it needed about 8,750 at time of press — the Lego Review Board will consider making it an official set.

Now that would be pretty cool.
