Bora Bora Coral Gardening

Jeff Mondle

The Bora Bora Pearl Beach Resort's secret haven

Sometimes the dive life is just too easy. That's not a complaint, mind you, especially when I'm talking about exploring the corals gardens around the Bora Bora Pearl Beach Resort. It's more a wistful reverie. In 2001, the Bora Bora Pearl Beach Resort collaborated with a marine biologist to plant and grow corals beneath the resort's over-water bungalows. There are 43 of these fish havens pockmarking the Bora Bora Pearl Beach Resort's lagoon. The Bora Bora Pearl Beach Resort has even brought in fish to help establish a robust resident population. The result is a lovely nursery and active ecological area that will help educate and enthrall the guests. But the best part, as I noted above, is the ease of exploring these little coral islands. You simply walk out the back of your bungalow and slip into the water. In addition to the hard corals, you'll be greeted by a variety of damselfish, including three-stripe and peacock, and about 65 other species of lagoon fish, such as parrotfish and snapper. The only drawback, which in my mind is a benefit, is that you have to be a guest at the Bora Bora Pearl Beach Resort. Dang the luck.
