The DAN Diver Safety Education Internship is a fully funded, 8-12-week placement in Durham, North Carolina, that gives the recipient the opportunity to work side-by-side with key DAN training department staff while gaining valuable professional – and industry – knowledge and experience. It also includes the opportunity to attend and present highlights of their internship experience at the Our World Underwater Scholarship Society’s Annual Scholar Weekend in New York City, New York, 21-22 April 2018.

“We established the DAN Diver Safety Education Internship because we see a need for trained educators in our industry – people who know how to develop educational programs with goals, objectives, and learning outcomes,” says Patty Seery, DAN Training Director. “This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who is informed on the latest teaching techniques and tools to help us ensure our programs are as up-to-date and in keeping with modern teaching and learning methodologies as possible. In return, the intern gets to contribute to educational advancements that have real-world, lifesaving applications, gain new skills and experience, and make valuable connections.”

The intern will work with a mentor and, based on current DAN projects and the intern’s personal goals, may be involved in a variety of undertakings, ranging from reviewing and revising existing programs to developing new ones.

To apply, students must be enrolled in either a Bachelor or Master of Education program who has completed relevant coursework in instructional design strategies, learning assessment, and evaluation or be a recent graduate. Applicants must also be certified divers open to advancing their skills and experience, though the internship does not directly involve diving.

The internship is administered through the Our World-Underwater Scholarship Society. The deadline for applications is December 31, 2017, and the selected recipient will be notified by the end of February 2018.
