Cetacea Save-a-Dive Kit
The truth is, you'll carry this thing around the world and hopefully never use most of it. In 25 years of diving, I've needed the spare parts -- O-ring, mask strap, fin strap, regulator mouthpiece, snorkel keeper, zip ties -- in my save-a-dive kit about 10 times -- and mostly for other people on the dive boat. When that happens, you're the hero. I didn't actually carry my save-a-dive kit religiously until I was the lucky recipient of an O-ring brought along by another diver. Without his handy save-a-dive kit on that day, I would've counted seagulls while the other divers traipsed through the kelp forest off Catalina on an unprecedented day when the viz soared to 150 feet. It was probably one of the most magical dives I've ever experienced. We were followed by a snorkel-biting harbor seal throughout the dive and were treated to several bat rays passing through the light beams in the kelp forest; on the way back we got to watch a massive angel shark munch a passing fish right in front of us. There was more, too -- suffice it to say the dive was unprecedented. And all that could've been missed over a faulty O-ring. There are some essential pieces of dive equipment in the kit, however, that you'll use all the time: the scuba tool and the defog. Hopefully you'll never use any spare part in this kit, but you'll be glad you have it if you need it.
