The Great Barrier Reef, need we say more? The world's largest and longest reef is home to hundreds of species and is a must do for divers and snorkelers. Day trips are good for those intent on doing a little bit of everything in the land down under and the majority of these depart from Cairns and Townsville. Other areas of Australia to consider if you're particular about your marine life encounters are the west for whale sharks, and if you're willing to get in a cage and look into the jaws of great white sharks, the south is your best bet.
