October 2009 Editor's Pick SCUBAPRO/UWATEC Galileo Luna

SCUBAPRO/Uwatec Glileo Luna get the nod for its multiple display options, major computation horsepower and incredibly cool compass.

The little brother to the Galileo Sol, the Luna does it all, save for the predictive multigas and heart–rate-monitoring functions — but even those are optional. The Luna offers a monster display, but in a surprisingly low-profile package. We fell in love with the multiple screen options and what we think is the best electronic compass around. The latter offers a partial compass rose and works at a 90-degree tilt. The algorithm is middle-of-the-road, and instead of a deep-stop feature, it uses a PDIS (Profile Dependent Intermediate Stop) option. And the three control buttons are clearly labeled in each menu screen.

Key Features:

  • Wrist mount
  • Air-integrated, hoseless
  • Three gas mixes, nitrox 21%-100%
  • Four transmitter capability
  • Electronic compass
  • Three primary screen configurations
  • Gas-loading bar graphs
  • Three-button interface with prompts
