Philippe Cousteau Foundation Created
In April of this year, members of the Cousteau family announced the creation of the Philippe Cousteau Foundation, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the continuation of the ideals and goals put forth by the late author, explorer and documentary filmmaker. In addition to continuing the Cousteau tradition of expeditionary film making, the foundation will focus on Philippe's vision for solution-based projects that combined sustainable development with the restoration of a global ecological balance. Philippe was a passionate advocate of the environment, and it was his belief that in order to preserve the Earth, people must be informed and given the chance to exercise environmentally sustainable options, Alexandra Cousteau, chairwoman of the Foundation. It is my goal to establish projects that work on local levels to effect long-term, positive change in regions of the world where rapid, uncontrolled development now threatens both the natural order and the quality of human life.Alexandra, who is the daughter of the late Philippe, and the granddaughter of world-renown Jacques Cousteau, holds a degree from Georgetown University in International Relations, with specialties in Sustainable Development, Human Rights and Environmental Studies. Also involved in the foundation are Jan Cousteau, the widow of Philippe, and his son Philippe Pierre. The foundation is now seeking the help of individuals and corporations that wish to participate in conservation and sustainable development projects, and in the development and growth of the foundation.
