Southern Cross Club, Little Cayman
The Southern Cross Club on Little Cayman Island, about 70 miles from Grand Cayman, is a small, secluded resort with a charming, laid-back atmosphere. We have the perfect spot to do a lot, a little or nothing at all, says Peter Hillenbrand, owner of Southern Cross Club. Top-rated activities around here include diving, fishing and some serious hammock tending. According to Hillenbrand, a common occurrence at Southern Cross is what he refers to as couple travel - when two working couples take a holiday together and participate in the Club's 4-R program. The 4-R's are four travelers who change from business suit to wetsuit and spend their vacation days diving the world-class dive sites on Little Cayman Island. Other 4-R activities include snorkeling, fishing, sea kayaking, bicycling, nature hikes, sunset cruises, and, of course, the resort's favorite activity: serious hammock tending. The resort opened in the late 1950s as a private club and quickly established itself as having the best diving and fishing in the Caribbean. Now fully renovated, the Southern Cross Club maintains its charming ambience, privacy and personalized service. Accommodations include five duplex cottages with double beds and oceanfront porches and one two-bedroom cottage featuring a master bedroom with king-size bed.
