Uwatec Galileo Sol

Storyline: First, the Sol takes the concept of adaptive algorithms to a whole new level. With the addition of a wireless Polar heart rate monitor, it now factors cardiovascular stress into deco calculations along with air consumption and environmental factors for amazingly personalized data. Secondly, the new menu is so intuitive it nearly makes the user manual obsolete.

Key Features: Hoseless air integration, a heart rate monitor and a new display are just the start. The Galileo also boasts new push buttons (no more water contacts) for navigating the menu and an electronic compass that works when held at any orientation. The system can be upgraded with new features by downloading software updates as they become available, and the user can define exactly what parameters are to be used in deco calculations (air, heart, both or neither).

Analysis: Uwatec hit the ball so far out of the park we can't find it. The heart rate monitor is effective, if not downright cool, and the new menu is a dream to navigate. If there is a negative here it's size. The Sol is bigger than the average wrist unit, but even that has its upside for divers tired of squinting at tiny displays. We like it.
