Zeagle Flathead 7

I recently got the chance to use the new Zeagle Flathead-7 while on a Sport Diver Get Published reader trip in Tobago. As anyone who has dived Tobago knows, the currents can be quite challenging, and the last thing you need to worry about is your ability to breathe, simply and easily, without undue effort. My main determining factor for regs is simple: About 10 minutes into the dive, any dive, do I know it's even there? If I'm breathing on demand, as naturally as I would above water, then I've got a reg I can live with. After that, it's all about comfort. Well, the Zeagle Flathead accomplished that pretty much from the first breath. This reg required very little effort to breathe and doesn't over-deliver air the way some super-easy breathers do. The act of inhalation and exhalation came easily, comfortably and naturally. My first dive with the Flathead was at a site called Bookends in a wicked current. I had to push hard against the current with my camera numerous times, and working those big motor muscles in my thighs required a stronger breathing rate. The Flathead stayed anonymous through the dive. I got the air I needed as the dive progressed from heavy action to deeper water to the Zen state of my safety stop. The rate and effort didn't change despite depth. I remembered I had a different reg from the one I'd brought only when I was back on the boat and one of the Get Published participants asked me what I thought of it. I had only one reply: "Loved it."
