Dive Paradise, a family-run dive center on Cozumel, knows that who you dive with makes all the difference. Its staff, mostly locals who grew up on the island’s walls and reefs, represent some of the most experienced local dive guides on the island. Safety is priority one. Instructors and staff stay sharp on best diving practices, giving guests full confidence that they will be taken care of every minute of the journey. Second is creating a vibe that’s as fun on the boats as it is underwater. With a large fleet of boats, Dive Paradise caters to a variety of skill levels. All guests have opportunities to dive the most famous sites of Cozumel, from Santa Rosa Wall to Punta Sur, as well as a few hidden gems. Dive Paradise can also accommodate requests for dive classes. Guests looking to breathe underwater for the first time can do a Discover Scuba Diving experience. Those who want to come back from vacation with more than just a full logbook and tan can build skills by taking a class such as Rescue Diver. For those with physical limitations, Find Dive Paradise on site at the 180-room, all-inclusive Wyndham Cozumel Hotel and Resort, home to the island’s largest pool. A second contained water area, the 8-foot-deep rock grotto pool located seaside, offers an idyllic confined water setting for guests looking to complete training dives. There’s also a hot tub and a poolside bar to help you relax further post-dive. Book a package with Wyndham and you can also take advantage of the sand beach, kids’ club and room service. Best of all, the Wyndham is less than a mile from downtown, making it easy to walk or catch a quick cab ride in for enchiladas, tequila tasting or souvenir shopping.

The dive shop itself is located beachside, just steps from Cozumel’s main reef system. Shore diving is available, day or night. Dive Paradise offers a full-service concierge service, coordinating day tours, some of which are offered through outposts of Dive Paradise. Concierge can arrange day trips just across the channel to mainland Mexico, where the jungle and Mayan ruins await. Mid-June through mid-September, Dive Paradise staff takes guests snorkeling with whale sharks off the neighboring island of Isla Mujeres. Groups no bigger than eight to 10 guests enjoy a more intimate experience. Dive Paradise can also take care of adding a stay to Tulum. Even if one does not have previous cave or cavern diving experience, they can book three days and two nights on the Mexico mainland and dive the famous cenote cave systems. Packages are offered with either Hotel Alea Tulum, located on the beach, or Kan Tulum, a collection of treehouses set in the jungle and nestled around a swimming pool.

Bull Sharks
From November 15 to February 15, Dive Paradise instructors and divemasters offer day trips to the beaches just off Playa del Carmen, a city just south of Cancun. There, in water typically around 25 feet deep, female bull sharks gather, making a mesmerizing and impressive spectacle for divers.
Experienced Diver Program
Longtime divers looking for something different can book the EDP two-tank computer trip and explore further afield. Heavy currents and occasional big swells mean that these weather dependent sites aren’t dived often, serving up more unique sites and thrills.
