2011 ScubaLab BC Tests: Tilos Armada

Tilos Armada

Carrie Garcia

Tilos Armada
SPECS
» Style Back Buoyancy
» Weight System Mechanical: Ditchable Pouches and Rear Trim Pouches
» Dry Weight 8.25 pounds
www.tilos.com

PRICE RANGE Over $400

TEST STATS Real-World Performance: 4 (VERY GOOD)

PERFORMANCE
Tilos markets the Armada for the “avid traveler,” and its back-inflation design and relatively compact profile make for easier packing than a full jacket-style system. Weighing in at a little more than 8 pounds, however, it is heavier than many of the other BCs, something to consider when packing for air travel. Divers felt the inflator assembly was slow during deflation and noted the lack of an alternative dump valve on the right shoulder, but rated the Armada highly for overall stability. The system is well constructed, and testers liked the large number of well-placed D-rings, the large zippered pockets and the overall comfort. The detachable air-cell bladder can be replaced easily if damaged. Rated just behind our Testers’Choice BCs in overall points, the Tilos Armada is our Best Buy in the Over $400 category.

BEST FOR Nontechnical advanced diving, general recreational diving, underwater photography, underwater hunting
