Grenada The Spice Island for Divers--Wrecks, Drift Dives, 50-90ft. visibility provides a little something for all divers. My wife and I decided to do a dive trip to Grenada May 18-May 28, 2007 and it was one of the most relaxing dive vacations we have taken. We have been to many diving destinations including: Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac, St.Croix, Belize, Kona Coast Hawaii, Cozumel, Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao and Grenada offers the most diving diversity of any dive location we have been to. There are more than 30 dive sites in Grenada that will provide you the opportunity to dive wrecks, reefs, gentle walls and drift diving. Grenada provides divers a little bit of everything except shore diving. Peter Hughes now has a live aboard in Grenada for the dedicated die hard 5 dives a day divers. Since Grenada is not yet as heavily frequented by visitors as other Caribbean destinations, the reefs, wrecks and walls remain unspoiled by crowds and cattle boat diving. Divers will discover nearly every kind of coral imaginable, along with an abundance of marine fish life, pelagic and coastal as well as turtles, rays, and sharks.
Aquanauts & Diving on Grenada

Aquanauts on Grenada is the only dive operation I would recommend as they have three of the largest dive boats on the island and dive safety is paramount. The boats are in excellent condition and the crew knows the sites. The owners of Aquanauts have run dive operations for years including previous operations on Curacao. Aquanauts provide free shuttle service from the Grande Anse beach resorts and have an excellent staff. All three dive boats have fresh water showers after your dive. We did a 6 day 2-Dive package. A typical dive day started at 8:30 am with a shuttle ride to the Aquanaut dock at the south end of the island. The dive boat and crew provided a boat briefing and quickly assisted with dive gear setup and weights. Aquanauts will handle all your gear once you start diving with them and even offer to clean it before you go home if you like. You will set up your gear as it will be waiting for you next day of diving on the boat. The dive boats were never crowded and all dives were 35 55 mins depending on dive debth and air consumption. Each diver is responsible for their own computer monitoring and air consumption. Due to the dive profiles and debths a dive computer is a must. Adequate time was spent on safe ascents and safety stops as some of the dives can be 100ft. or a little deeper. Typical boat rides to the dive sites ranged from 10 20 mins. Surface intervals ranged from 53mins. to 75 mins. and you were back at the dock by 12:30 pm. No cattle diving, no crowds, no DMs checking your every move or trying to heard the divers. Of the 12 dives we did only one was a repeat dive and that was to a beautiful wreck called Veronica. Visibility ranged from 50 90 ft. Aquanauts does offer a 1-tank afternoon dive and evening dives if enough divers are interested. We did a different wreck dive each day we were in Grenada. Grenada Hotel and Accomodations

The Grand Anse beach areas is the major tourist area on the island with several local restaurants and grocery stores available. The IGA grocery store is very well stocked. The people on Grenada are friendly and we both felt safe and secure. Grenada has several hotels that we would recommend including: Grenada Grand Beach Resort, Coyaba and Allamanda. True Blue resort is right at the Aquanauts Head main dive operation but a few miles from the Grand Anse beach area. Spend a little time on the internet to determine which property fits your needs and budget. We booked our room at the Grenada Grand Beach Resort through Orbitz and were pleased. Our Ocean front room with A/C, Colored Cable TV and refrigerator was only $130.00 USD in May. The Grenada Grand Beach resort has two beautiful swimming pools, ice machines and a free computer in the lobby and a short walk to shopping and restaurants.

Dining on Grenada was very affordable. Dinner for two ranged from $35.00 $75.00 US. The local brew Carib beer can often be purchases for $1.60 US for a cold 12 oz. bottle. You can eat at your hotel restaurant or even buy a meal package at most hotels but we like a little more variety on our dive vacations. Some of our favorite restaurants on the island near the Grand Anse area include: Coconut Beach, Le Chateau, La Boulangerie, Ricks Caf (Pizza), Southside Caf (Rotis). Our favorite Downtown restaurants in St. Georges are: Nutmeg, DDs Crabback, Ocean Grill. You can take a bus from the Grand Anse area to St.Georges for a few dollars but watch the time as the busses stop by 9pm. If you are looking for a relaxing dive vacation with a variety of diving and Bonaire, Cozumel and Grand Cayman are getting a little old and frequently traveled Try Grenada you wont be disappointed.
