Liveaboard Life: The Belize Aggressor III and Belize Aggressor IV
Belize may be one of the smallest nations in Central America, but it boasts some of the planet’s best diving. Three of the four true atolls in the western hemisphere lie 30 to 60 miles in crystal-clear water off the mainland of Belize, and offer fish- and coral-packed walls that plummet 3,000 feet below, and two of them — Lighthouse and Turneffe — are the stuff of scuba-diving legend. Sure, you could book a trip at a land-based resort to dive the beautiful sites at one of these atolls. Or you could book one of Aggressor Fleet’s yachts — Belize Aggressor III or Belize Aggressor IV — and visit all the stellar sites Lighthouse and Turneffe offer.
Belize is a wall diver’s paradise — in 2016, it was named one of the best places for wall diving in the Caribbean by Scuba Diving magazine’s annual Top 100 Readers Choice Awards. Legendary walls like Painted Wall, Half Moon Caye Wall and Quebrada shimmer with color — huge crimson gorgonians and giant orange elephant ear sponges adorn the reefs with the colors of a Caribbean sky at sunset. Moray eels, spiny lobsters and tiny arrow crabs hide in every crack, crevice, cave and tunnel of these beautiful coral formations.
You’ll also dive the famous Great Blue Hole. This mystical site was made famous by ocean pioneer Jacques-Yves Cousteau, who declared it one of the top 10 dive sites in the world. In 1971, he brought his ship, the Calypso, to the Blue Hole to chart its depths. There’s very little marine life; rather the thrill comes from diving in Cousteau’s “fin-steps,” as you descend to 130 feet, where you’ll explore grand stalactites, formed when the cave’s roof collapsed and the site was filled with fresh water some 153,000 years ago. Beneath you, the bottom looms at 407 feet. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Every Saturday at 6 p.m., the luxurious, 110-foot Belize Aggressor III and 138-foot Belize Aggressor IV cast off from the Radisson Ft. George dock, located in the heart of downtown Belize City, for a week of hassle-free diving. Aggressor Fleet maintains high service and safety standards, a promise you can count on worldwide. And on Aggressor Fleet boats, you basically never dry off — you’ll be underwater as often as you want to be. The yachts are also a great place to relax — take in the views and laze in the sun on the top deck or read a book on the overstuffed sofas in the inviting salon. And forget your diet for the week — Aggressor chefs are among the best in the world, as you’ll discover whether you’re grabbing a quick post-dive snack or enjoying a huge buffet at dinner.
What are you waiting for? It’s time to book a trip you’ll remember for a lifetime.
