Liveaboard Life: The Red Sea Aggressor

Draped in a vibrant mix of soft corals and sponges, patrolled by an array of pelagic predators, home to some fish species found nowhere else on earth, and the resting place of world-class wrecks, the reefs and pinnacles of the Red Sea are the stuff of legend. An inlet of the Indian Ocean, the Red Sea is blessed with a rich ecosystem and crystal-clear water.

Red Sea Aggressor runs two itineraries in the Red Sea — north to Brothers, Daedalus and Elphinstone and south to St. John’s, Fury Shoals and Daedalus. Guests can plan their vacations to spend two weeks aboard the Red Sea Aggressor and do both itineraries when they’re offered back-to-back.

“The offshore marine parks represent the very pinnacle of Red Sea diving, boasting dramatic walls, stunning corals, jaw-dropping shipwrecks and a plethora of colorful marine life, many of which are endemic to the region,” says Mark Evans, underwater photographer, writer and former editor of Sport Diver UK — and a frequent visitor to the region. “The Red Sea Aggressor is the ideal yacht from which to access these awesome dive sites – she is spacious, stable and well-equipped, with a large dive deck, comfortable saloon, ensuite cabins and two powerful zodiacs for getting you into the heart of the action.”

On the Brothers, Daedalus and Elphinstone itinerary guests are treated to pinnacle diving, with walls that plummet hundreds of feet down. Surrounded by open ocean, you’re almost guaranteed to see rays and sharks. Dive sites on the St. John’s, Fury Shoals and Daedalus itinerary include extensive reefs, tunnels and caverns for divers to explore. You’ll also likely encounter sharks, and resident spinner dolphins.

You can’t travel all the way to Egypt and not venture out to some of the ancient attractions. Aggressor has a dedicated travel department with agents who can book customized tours and travel itineraries, and assist with visits to the Pyramids and Valley of the Kings and cruises down the River Nile. If arriving early, they can even book your stay at one of the Port Ghalib resorts, and will arrange transportation to the boat.

The 120-foot Red Sea Aggressor departs on seven-day trips from Port Ghalib yacht marina, located in an upscale resort community near Marsa Alam. Marsa Alam International Airport is about 10 minutes from the marina. If arriving early, you can stay at Marina Lodge or Siva Port Ghalib; the resort can arrange transportation to the boat.

The Red Sea Aggressor II is scheduled to begin charters in July 2018. Guests will be able to dive the Northern Red Sea, Ras Mohamed and the Straits of Tiran.
