The reviews are starting to flood in on Oceanic's DataMask. Even before it's officially available to divers, this mask is making news. Here's what some industry insiders and test divers had to say about the DataMask.

I've now got more than 30 dives on the current version of the mask myself, and in all honesty can tell you that each time I am more impressed with the practicality of it. We've got a lot of buzz going already just due to the long-awaited technology, military use, first of its kind, etc. The great news is that it gets even better when people use it - the more the better. It seems ridiculous to explain to someone that looking at their watch or console takes so much effort that this mask is a great benefit - but after diving it, you do begin to realize just how much of a distraction monitoring your instruments actually is. If your fin strap required tightening every 5 or 10 minutes, it would quickly begin to irritate you - unless it is just the way that it is, in which case you deal with it.

I can't tell you how enjoyable it is to complete an entire dive without taking my eyes off the reef, ever. Ascents are completely changed - I find myself nearly laughing into my reg watching people ascend trying to manage their buoyancy and check their gauges with their left hand while their right is holding a line or dealing with a student. Safety stops on a night dive is another situation that I find hard to believe - with the DataMask I was perfectly able to observe my surroundings while seeing my current depth and countdown time. Everyone not diving a mask in the group is 100% focused on their gauge the entire time - and usually shining a light on it with their other hand. The display is perfect - you can easily dial in the backlight intensity so that the info is clearly visible when you glance down at it, but not at all distracting.

In less than 2 months, demo dealers and their customers have logged more than 1000 dives on the DataMask. The feedback has been nothing short of phenomenal.
