Find the Right Fin for your Kicking and Diving Style

When it comes to choosing the right fin to fit you best, it's all about your style of diving and kicking underwater. Most divers choose fins that are stable and powerful, but with open-heel, full-foot and freediving fin options it can be a challenge to determine which kind you need. Here are a few suggestions to help you find your perfect one.

OPEN-HEEL
Open-heel fins are often heavier and can have longer, stiffer blades that create more power. They’re also better for colder water because you wear them with boots or booties. Their straps are adjustable — though they require more effort to put on —and can have bungee or spring straps.

FULL FOOT
Full-foot fins provide a streamlined, solid connection between blade and foot, and don’t require the additional effort and expense of boots — perfect for use in warmer water.

Tip: No matter how great its design, you won’t really like your non-adjustable full-foot fins unless the fit is nearly perfect. So take the time to try on every available size to find one that’s just right for you.

FREEDIVING
Fit is essential in freediving fins — a foot pocket that’s even slightly loose wastes energy with every kick. Neoprene socks can help this, and some manufacturers sell insoles.

Once you decide on freediving fins, you'll want to take some time to choose the material for your fins and make sure it's in your price point.
