Sleeping with the Fishes

Reclining Buddha statues represent the ascetic during his last illness, just before he entered the state known as nirvana after death. This statue at Suci’s Place, located off Matahari Tulamben Resort in Bali, Indonesia, is named Sleeping Buddha. Since 2012, statues have been added to the site — adjacent to the Liberty wreck — including one of Buddha’s mother, Tara.
