Philippe Cousteau Jr. Gives Nod to Jacques-Yves Cousteau in Great Big Story Video Series

The red cap is back. Philippe Cousteau Jr. — grandson of legendary explorer and conservationist Jacques-Yves Cousteau — donned the knit topping of his grandfather’s signature look for an online video series that takes a lighthearted approach to marine-biology education.

The series, which is produced by CNN’s Great Big Story, sheds light on some of the ocean’s interesting creatures, such as the mimic octopus and phytoplankton.

"What's important is adapting to the way people tell stories now," said Cousteau in an interview for Sport Diver's March issue. I was really interested in doing stuff that is a little bit less earnest and something people might not expect.

"We're very much a tribute to Life Aquatic, which, in turn, is a tribute to Cousteau. It was probably the second time in my life I've worn a red cap. It was something that meant a lot to me, so I didn't want it to be cheesy or tacky. I felt like that was a way to do it, have fun and laugh at myself a little bit."
