The Cozumel 10
1 Cedar Pass This is a shallow dive, but it's covered with fish life from top to bottom, end to end. The number-one spot among the divers from Valparaiso, it was my vote that put it over the top. 2 Santa Rosa Wall It was tied for first place among the divers from Valparaiso. The group loved Santa Rosa's endless drop-offs, swim-throughs and turtles galore. 3, 4, 5 Palancar Gardens, Palancar Horseshoe, Palancar Caves All three of the Palancar Reef dive sites ranked near the top of our list. Impressive swim-throughs, turtles and an assortment of tropical fish were the highlights of these dives. Factor in the clear water and southern location, and these three sites score a home run in any diver's logbook. 6 Paradise Reef Night Dive This is one of my favorites in the Caribbean. Cozumel's indigenous splendid toadfish can easily be found at night. Nudibranchs, octopus and lobster are some other nocturnal regulars. 7 Punta Sur Devil's Throat or Cathedral, take your pick. Cozumel veterans talk about these dive sites with reverence. 8 Wreck of the C-53 This new wreck, sunk in 2000, is a fun change of pace during a week of Cozumel diving. It's a safe and easy dive for just about anyone. 9 Lighthouse Drift Dive Scuba Shack's Chuck Linder's not-yet-patented Lighthouse Drift Dive begins at Playa Caletita and finishes at the Scuba Club Cozumel or at Dive Paradise's Pier. 10 Chankanaab Reef A stereotypical Cozumel shallow dive. You'll find a fast, fun current, huge sponges and sea fans and an incredible assortment of colors.
