Bohio Dive Resort, Grand Turk's Newest Operation, is Now Open

The Bohio Dive Resort, Grand Turk's newest operation, is now open. The Bohio Dive Resort, situated on the pristine white sand of Pillory Beach, Grand Turk, was opened officially last weekend. With its 16 comfy rooms just steps from the water, the newly refurbished Bohio offers diving, watersports, fine cuisine and relaxation in a glorious Caribbean setting. The idyllic spot, part of a protected marine park, has just been awarded the accolade of best diving beach by US magazine Men's Journal.

Conditions are perfect for beginners and advanced divers alike. The "outstanding wall", just a few hundred yards off the beach was voted among the top ten advanced dive sites in April's Scuba Diving magazine. The dramatic plunge from shallow reefs to ocean trench a mile deep, with chutes and tunnels to explore, attracts a wealth of wildlife. "You never know what you'll see - whales, sharks, turtles, mantas," says owner-manager Kelly Shanahan.

Witness the rare black corals at black forest or the teeming fish life at the amphitheatre. The resort's smart new dive boat will drop you at the more remote dive sites in just five minutes, or you can just stroll in right off the beach. For those looking for a little less drama, there's a natural sandy pool and shallow house reef, perfect for snorkellers, swimmers or those just starting out. The dedicated ecologically minded team boasts both international and local expertise, offering a wide selection of PADI courses.

When you're not diving, there's no need to be bored, with Hobie cats and kayaks to hire, and lessons or guided trips available. There are whale watching tours, fishing, local island trips to see the tame stingrays and local experts freediving for conch. At the end of a hard day, on or under the water, the west facing beach is the perfect spot to enjoy an uplifting sunset yoga session or relax in a hammock with a house cocktail while keeping an eye out for the elusive "green flash" phenomenon.

The laid back island wakes up at night. A mix of local bands and quaint beach bars providing the ideal setting to mix, share a rum punch, enjoy a beach barbecue, then hit the dance floor with the friendly islanders.

Alternatively opt for fine dining at the resort's stylish restaurant, the Guanahani, presided over by award-winning chef Zev Beck. His exquisite menu has a French, Italian and Asian influence with, of course, a Caribbean twist and imaginative specials created from the local catch of the day and seasonal ingredients.

The resort has 16 rooms, 4 of them suites, all just a step from the ocean with glorious sea views and balconies. All rooms are air conditioned, with ensuite facilities, ceiling fans, fridges and TV.

Bohio is the old island name for a home - a name thoroughly befitting of the welcoming, comfortable and relaxed atmosphere of the resort.
