Pelican Sends Thousands of Lights To Disaster Relief Effort

Pelican lights packed for shipment to New YorkPelican Products, a manufacturer of safety flashlights and protector equipment cases, put in extra hours and manpower to make ready thousands of flashlights sent to aid in rescue efforts in New York City and the Pentagon. The flashlights, all safety approved and water resistant, are an essential tool for those men and women participating in the devastating task of sifting through the aftermath of the tragic events of Tuesday, September 11th. Shawn Meehan, Sales manager for the Industrial Division, received a call from the New York Fire Department stating their desperate need for flashlights. Key personnel at Pelican came together to discuss the plan of action which not only included the assembly and packing of the lights, but also the almost impossible task of getting the products shipped to their disastrous destinations. Shipping Manager Steve Herrera called his contact, an official at UPS, and managed to get the much needed flashlights on an emergency flight to New York on Thursday evening. As boxes upon boxes of flashlights were packed and loaded onto a conveyor belt, Pelican employees flocked to sign each box with messages of thanks and well wishes. ''Those firemen, professionals, and volunteers in New York will have their spirits lifted, if not just for a moment, by your heartfelt words'', stated Terry Cox, Vice President of marketing, in a company wide announcement of thanks and a moment of prayer and reflection on Friday morning.
