Beneath the Sea Announces 2015 Divers of the Year
Beneath the Sea proudly presents … The Class of 2015:
Divers of the Year Since its inception the Beneath the Sea Diver of the Year award program has honored men and women whose presence in the Dive Industry has made significant and lasting contributions to the past, present, and future of diving. By selecting for honor only those divers of eminence who rank in the top of their field — Arts, Science, Service, Environment, or Education — Beneath the Sea has created a fraternity of men and women whose visions are firmly fixed on the future of diving and whose future is tied to each other and to divers everywhere. For these reasons it is with immense pride that Beneath the Sea presents the Divers of the Year, Class of 2015.
Beneath the SeaWhen you are the grandson of Jacques-Yves Cousteau and the son of Jean-Michel Cousteau and you grow-up on the decks of the Calypso and Alcyone the sea and all that is in it gets into the blood where it circulates and boils. In Fabien it created projects, visions, futures for the sea and futures for the creatures who call the seas their home. It is the Cousteau family legacy to preserve and protect our planet’s extensive marine inhabitants and habitats. Most recently Fabien and his team of aquanauts embarked on Mission 31, the longest science expedition to take place at Aquarius, the world’s only underwater marine laboratory nine miles off the coast of the Florida Keys and 63 feet beneath the sea. Mission 31 not only broke new ground in ocean exploration but honored the 50th anniversary of his grandfather’s original underwater living experiment (Conshelf Two) by going deeper, staying longer, all the while broadcasting live on multiple channels exposing the world to the adventure, drama, and mystique of what lies beneath the sea. Fabien’s visions are the future and Beneath the Sea will follow a man who follows that dream. Today, he is Beneath the Sea’s Diver of the Year for Science.
Beneath the SeaKeith is General Manager of Sunset House on Grand Cayman and no stranger to the workings of the dive industry and what keeps a successful resort such as Sunset House on Grand Cayman consistently attracting divers and dive activities. Decisive, incisive, thoughtful, and helpful Keith may always be found in the center of the dive activity whether it is out on the floor of dive shows such as DEMA or Beneath the Sea, or in a huddle with visiting dive dignitaries and equipment reps at My Bar at Sunset House, or leading the Cayman Watersports Association. Beneath the Sea wants to recognize the man who has accepted the role as keystone in the arch of scuba recreation, training, and safety so we have recognized Keith Sahm.
Beneath the SeaTom was elected Diver of the Year because as Executive Director of DEMA the Dive Equipment Marketing Association no one in the scuba industry matches Tom’s dedication to the dive industry, diving, or its advancement and expansion. Since coming on board in 2002 Tom has dedicated his life to the sustainability of the scuba industry, scuba travel, education, and equipment. Tom brought to DEMA his years of experience as Director of Technical Marketing for Scubapro and Marketing Manager for Aqua Lung America. Long ago Tom made his commitments to the dive industry: he has been a certified Scuba Instructor since 1976 and a Course Director since 1988. Beneath the Sea wants to recognize such a man as this and stand beside Tom and support him in his industry and efforts.
