Wreck of the Iro
Dive Site: Wreck of the Iro Location: Palau Lagoon Film: Fuji Provia Camera: Nikonos V Settings: 1/60th at f-11, natural light Description: The Iro is a Japanese oil tanker sunk during operation Desecrate I, March 31, 1944. This is the forward kingpost on this 475-foot tanker.
Oxycirrhites typus, the longnose hawkfish
Dive Site: Lighthouse Channel Location: Malakal Harbor, Palau Marine Life ID: Oxycirrhites typus, the longnose hawkfish Film: Fuji Velvia Camera: Nikon N90 in an Aquatica 90 housing with two Sea & Sea Sub 30 strobes Settings: 1/60th at f-22, full power with strobes Description: Longnose hawkfish are not easily found compared with the rest of their family. They are a major predator of tiny invertebrates amongst the gorgonians andsoft corals in which they live.

Dive Site: German Channel Location: Palau, barrier reef Marine Life ID: Stegastoma varium, leopard or zebra shark Film: Fuji Velvia Camera: Nikonos V, 20 mm Nikonos lens, one Sea & Sea 120 strobe Settings: 1/60th at f-8, full power Description: These two leopard sharks were exhausted from their premating ritual. The female is in the foreground and the male is still hanging on to her pectoral finin the background. An amazing sight.

Dive Site: Harbor Reef Location: Malakal Harbor, Palau Marine Life ID: Hoplophrys oatesii, the soft coral spider crab, on Dendronephtya soft coral. They actually mimic their host, Dendronepthya corals.

Dive Site: Turtle Cove Location: Palau barrier reef Marine Life ID: Laticauda colubrina, banded sea snake Film: Fuji Velvia Camera: Nikonos V, 15mm lens, one Sea & Sea 120 strobe Settings: 1/60th at f-16, strobe on full Description: Occasionally a sea snake is spotted hunting or resting along one of the barrier reef walls. Usually, they are found commonly within the lagoon andharbor, hunting on shallow reef flats or sleeping along the sides of the islands.
