Scuba Diving in Belize at Pompion Wall
Taking off from the town of Placencia in southern Belize, we made our way into the Caribbean Sea to go scuba diving on Placencia's Outer Reef at Pompion Wall and Pompion Canyons. What awaited was close encounters with moray eels, barracuda, four-eye butterflyfish, triggerfish and lobsters.
We made a classic wall dive first, heading to a max depth of 80 feet and slowly making our way along the wall and to more shallow waters. Angelfish swam in tandem along the wall, providing a splash of color, while crabs hid in cracks and crevices. Not long after our initial descent, our dive guide spotted a free-swimming moray eel, which made its way toward our group before finding refuge in its apartment-like home in the wall.

Dive No. 2 was slightly more shallow, at a site called Pompion Canyons. We explored the alleyways cut into the reef at about 60 feet, looking for lobster, lionfish and huge brain corals. We spot a shark cruising in the distance at the start of the dive and continue to enjoy the reef for about 50 minutes.
