If you’d rather stick needles in your eyes than visit an art gallery, the Maritime Museum of Art might change your point of view. The underwater sculptures that comprise MuMart, located in the Mediterranean Sea, are stunning works of art contributed by 14 sculptors.

“We dropped in from the boat and found ourselves in a shallow meadow of sea grass — it’s hypnotic,” says underwater photo pro Alex Mustard. “With changes in the light, visibility and surroundings, this is a museum that is never the same each time you visit.” The picturesque coastal village of Golfo Aranci is the perfect launching point for diving the museum, as well as nearby wrecks, caves and rocky reefs.

Neoprene layers such as a hood and vest ward off chills.
