DIVING PALM BEACH: Due to the warm clear waters of the Gulf Stream, Palm Beach enjoys a large and diverse marine life population. The waters just off shore are teeming with fish life, turtles, moray eels, stingrays and sharks. Underwater photographers come from all over the world to photograph rare species that they have a difficult time finding anywhere else. Batfish, flying gurnards, giant Jewfish and four species of turtles are just some of the undersea attractions.

Palm Beach offers living coral reefs and shipwrecks that range in depth from 45 to 100 feet. Most of these sites are less than one mile from shore. Dive boat rides are impressively brief ranging from 10 to 30 minutes from the inlet.

PALM BEACH DIVE SITES: The Palm Beach area is blessed with more than 40 different dive sites and encompass a wide variety of depths, bottom profiles and marine attractions. Here is just a small sampling of what awaits the Palm Beach visitor:

The Breakers (60 feet) - The prettiest reef in the Palm Beach area. It has a 4 to 8 foot ledge, graced with a statue of King Neptune at the north end of the reef. There are lots of beautiful creatures to be found here such as turtles, stingrays and lots of tropical fish and invertebrates.

Turtle Mound (60 feet) - This 12 foot high ledge runs east and west with reef ledges on the south and west sides. On the west side there are sleeping and feeding turtles, large stingrays and cobia can almost always be found.

Playpen (60 feet) - An artificial reef just south of the inlet made of large concrete culverts and concrete telephone poles. Large schools of barracuda are always present. Occasionally Jewfish and spotted eagle rays can be seen here.

Larson's Valley (80 feet) - A white sandy road with a ledge on the right and a reef on the left side. An abundance of turtles, nurse sharks and lobsters can be found here.

Mizpah (90 feet) - This is definitely one of the best wrecks in Florida. She was sunk in 1968 and lies in 90 feet of water, just 10 minutes from the dock. The Mizpah is a 185 foot Greek luxury liner with three levels to explore and lots of soft corals covering the ship, from bow to stern.

The Corridor (80 feet) - A 1,700 foot drift dive encompassing the Mizpah, PC1170, Amaryllis, China Barge, Brazilian Docks and Rock Rubble connecting them all together. Excellent site with lots of fish and spotted eagle rays.

Spiny Oyster Barge (110 feet) - This large barge lies in 110 feet of water about 20 minutes north of the inlet. It is a photographers dream because of the beautiful corals that cover the entire wreck.
