DiveTech Handicapped Scuba Association Training In The Cayman Islands
New York, New York, September 28, 2006 - This September, Divetech in the Cayman Islands welcomed The Diveheart Foundation's Handicapped SCUBA Association to conduct staff training. After eight days of intensive interactive instruction, the seven instructors on the Divetech staff are now certified to lead handicapped divers on underwater adventures.
Diving is a great outlet for those inspiring individuals who strive to lead an active lifestyle, but might otherwise struggle on land. From learning tactile contact techniques and verbal cues to communicate with blind divers, to practicing paraplegic and quadriplegic transfers and pool entry, the Divetech instructors were provided with all the necessary tools to guide those who are physically impaired in their SCUBA pursuits. Diving in the warm, clear turquoise waters of the Cayman Islands is the perfect place to experience a first open-water dive.
Divetech offers two fantastic shore diving locations on the northwest tip of Grand Cayman, as well as daily boat trips to the North Wall, and full dive and room packages with Cobalt Coast Resort. The facility boasts a training centre on site, and offers both recreational and technical diving.
The Diveheart Foundation, founded in 2001, provides and supports educational SCUBA diving and snorkeling programs for the physically impaired. When used as part of a comprehensive rehabilitation program, diving lessons provide both physical and psychological therapeutic value.

Divi Resorts Announces Divi Tiara Beach Resort In Cayman Brac To Cease Business Operations On September 23, 2006
**- Closure Part of Divi Resorts Strategic Plan to Focus on Caribbean Destinations Offering Greater Opportunity for Growth -
Chapel Hill, NC., September 11, 2006--**As part of a strategic plan to refocus its resources on potential growth markets in the Caribbean, Divi Resorts has decided to cease business operations at Divi Tiara Beach Resort in Cayman Brac effective September 23, 2006. Divi Resorts will continue to serve its dive customers at its resort in Bonaire, the Divi Flamingo Beach Resort & Casino.
As part of the company's plan earlier this year Divi Resorts broke ground on a new development at Divi Aruba Phoenix Beach Resort in Aruba that will more than double the size of the resort, adding 140 suites to the existing 101 units. This project is expected to be complete in March 2008. Additionally in August 2006 Divi Resorts announced that it will open a second hotel in Bonaire in 2008, an all inclusive four-star resort with a full service dive center.
"While the decision to close Divi Tiara was a hard one, it was one that will benefit the company in the long run and will allow us to concentrate our efforts on expanding the Divi Resorts brand in Caribbean destinations with greater opportunities for development," said Mark Steward, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Divi Resorts. "Certain economic realities of continuing a dive-oriented resort on Cayman Brac also influenced our decision. Factors included airlift issues, which have affected Divi Tiara's dive guests in particular as they need to bring additional gear for their sport; increased competition from the growing number of niche market dive destinations throughout the Caribbean; and weather which in the past years has pushed up insurance costs."
Divi Resorts operates eight resorts on five Caribbean islands including the Divi Carina Bay Beach Resort & Casino in St. Croix; Divi Little Bay Beach Resort in St. Maarten; Divi Southwinds Beach Resort and Divi Heritage Beach Resort in Barbados; Divi Flamingo Beach Resort & Casino in Bonaire; and Divi Aruba Phoenix Beach Resort, Divi Village Golf and Beach Resort and Divi Dutch Village Resort in Aruba. From relaxing on white sand beaches and indulging in spa services to embarking on amazing scuba diving adventures and trying your luck in the casino, Divi Resorts has it all...and more. Summer School Has Never Been This Fun (or free!)
Cayman's Sir Turtle's Sea School Starts Soon
New York, New York, May 31, 2006--Even though school may be out for summer, the Cayman Islands Sir Turtle's Sea School is in session from June 1st to September 4th. A free program for kids ages 5-11; Sir Turtle's Sea School gives children (and their parents) the chance to learn about marine life, historic shipwrecks, and Caymanian heritage, in the world's best natural classroom--the Cayman Islands. Providing the perfect balance of learning and entertainment, Sir Turtle's Sea School gives kids the chance to participate in hands-on activities such as interactive storytelling, arts and crafts projects, and treasure hunts. Parents will accompany their children to school, where they will all be greeted by Cayman's mascot Sir Turtle and his swashbuckling friends. Kids are then allowed to choose their very own pirate costume out of a treasure trunk of clothes, and will go on to learn some of the fascinating legends and facts surrounding the shipwrecks off the Cayman Islands.
Aside from learning about Caymanian culture and folklore, participants in Sir Turtle's Sea School will also learn about marine ecology and sea life, and how to preserve this precious resource. By providing an entertaining and learning environment, Sir Turtle's Sea School will capture children's minds and equip them with knowledge which will begin to shape their values and way of life in the future. And because children do in fact 'teach' their parents, parents will come away with a new appreciation for their natural environment as well.
Sir Turtle's Sea School takes place at Boatswain's Beach, one of Cayman's newest and most exciting attractions, every Friday from 3:30-5:30 p.m., June 1 through September 4. And, is FREE as part of the Cayman Summer Splash Promotion. Dive With A Researcher At The Little Cayman Research Centre
ATTENTION SCUBA DIVERS: After a successful pilot program in 2005, the 2006 Dive with a Researcher Program is in full swing for Spring/Summer 2006.
Advanced SCUBA divers can now assist scientists in one of several marine research projects at the new Little Cayman Research Centre. "Our goal is to give divers an opportunity to become knowledgeable about coral reef conservation issues and efforts. By joining the Dive With A Researcher (DWAR) program, divers assist researchers by collecting underwater data, taking photographs, and by being a dive buddy. This program provides a unique new diving experience in the Cayman Islands. Divers will work first-hand on problems that are causing regional and global declines on reefs, will participate and learn what scientists are doing to work to protect them, while directly helping to fund the project you join." says Diana Schmitt, Executive Council Member of CCMI, and avid diver and underwater photographer.
The Little Cayman Research Centre is the newest marine research station in the Caribbean. The facility will host a significant number of scientific projects this summer with scientists coming from the UK, EU and US, along with college and the Caribbean Sea Camp, for high school students. Program information, including DWAR program information is posted on the Central Caribbean Marine Institute's website at www.reefresearch.org.
The ongoing research is providing important long-term trends on the local reefs and is being led by Brazilian scientist and CCMI Research Associate, Dr. Vania Coelho, Associate Professor of Oceanography and CCMI President, Dr. Carrie Manfrino, and PhD. Candidate, Ms. Marilyn Brandt. Their work is providing insight into the regional and global decline of coral reefs. The DWAR projects are exploring ways to directly reduce the impact of coral diseases which are the leading cause of mortality of corals, or will assist in understanding the potential of corals to repopulate the local reef. Underwater photographers are invited to assist by bringing their equipment and help document the research.
PROJECT DATES: (Please visit our website for detailed descriptions of each project.)
May 31 - June 7 Project Title: Cayman's Reef Constructors: Searching for Juvenile Corals

Chowder, INC. And The Cayman Islands Department Of Tourism Receive Adrian Award
New York based Agency Receives Award for Creative Brilliance in Travel Marketing
New York, New York, April 4, 2006--Chowder, Inc. and the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism are recent recipients of the prestigious Adrian Award, a competition sponsored by the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI). The Adrian Award is the preeminent awards program for the hospitality industry, bestowed upon companies for their innovation and creativity.
The creative team at Chowder, driven by partners Kim Ketchell, Tony Kobylinski and Jim Ritterhoff, with input and support from the Department of Tourism, produced the award-winning campaign Close to Home. Far From Expected. Launched in late 2004 to US print, web and broadcast outlets, Close to Home imparts the Department of Tourism's key messages. "We wanted to create a campaign that was of Cayman, not just about Cayman", said Ritterhoff. "Every execution has to have some element of the sea [each advertisement includes a trademark wave], but must also showcase the plethora of things to do in Cayman, both above and below the surface." "It was important to reinforce what Cayman is still best known for--world-class diving and watersports but to also illustrate Cayman¹s excellence in other perhaps lesser-known areas, including service, dining, hotels and attractions." added Kobylinski.
Chowder also relies heavily on the support of local Caymanians. Through the years, photographers David Wolfe, Courtney Platt and Patrick Broderick have all provided material for the ad campaign, while Caymanians have modeled for the ads themselves. Some might even recognize the voices of Olivia Scott and former Junior Minister of Tourism Joni Ebanks in the TV spots. Hotel operators, restaurateurs, proprietors and local production crews have all assisted Chowder at one point or another.
"On behalf of the Department of Tourism, I would like to congratulate Chowder and everyone involved with the ad campaign, on the Adrian Award which honours creative brilliance in hospitality, travel, and tourism-related marketing," said Pilar Bush, Director of Tourism, Cayman Islands. "This honour bestowed upon Cayman is testament to all of the significant efforts and excellence we strive for in marketing the destination." "At the end of the day, great work can only come from great clients. We appreciate the opportunity to work with all the smart, talented people in the Department of Tourism, Ministry of Tourism and private sector," said Ketchell.
This is the 47th year of the Adrian Advertising competition, now the largest travel and hospitality related award in the world. In 2004, the competition had more than 1500 entries from 46 countries. Previous winners include Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation and DDB Seattle for Holland America cruise line. Once entries are submitted, contest judges score each participant in the categories of marketing objectives, creativity, quality, content, and result. Entries are based on a graduated point system ranging from 0-50.
About Chowder Formed in 2001, Chowder, Inc. is an independent company solely devoted to the creation, development, production and distribution of original content for advertising/entertainment.
International Scuba Diving Hall Of Fame Website Goes Live At Beneath The Sea
ISDHF and Cayman Islands Department of Tourism Celebrate with Awards Presentation to Original Inductees Hans and Lotte Hass
New York, New York, March 31, 2006--The International Scuba Diving Hall of Fame (ISDHF) launched its official website at an event in conjunction with Beneath the Sea, America's largest scuba and dive travel show, last weekend. The launch was accompanied by a special awards presentation ceremony for Hall of Famers Hans and Lotte Hass.
Tom Ingram, President ISDHF, served as Master of Ceremonies to the room full of media and elite members of the scuba diving field. With the help of ISDHF board member Carl Roessler, the event kicked off with www.scubahalloffame.com going live for the first time. Roessler navigated the website, and showcased some of the site's key features, including bios, photos and videos on all of the 40 members; news and feedback sections; the organization's history; and an invitation to the 2007 induction ceremony.
Pilar Bush, Cayman Islands Director of Tourism, presented the award to Hans and Lotte. The couple, who celebrate 56 years of marriage, happily accepted the award and then charmed the crowd with dive stories from their younger years. Hans and Lotte Hass achieved fame as pioneer underwater filmmakers and remain towering figures in the history of underwater exploration. The Hass's early films of undersea adventure, from Manta! to Under the Red Sea inspired young people around the world to imagine having their own diving adventures. Original inductees to the Hall of Fame (2000), Hans and Lotte did not receive their awards then as the official award was not created by Caymanian artist Horacio Estaban until the second year of the induction ceremonies.
During her speech Ms. Bush commented that while the search for a permanent land based home is ongoing, the website would provide the Hall of Fame with a "virtual home" where scuba diving fans, enthusiasts and participants can learn about the sport's pioneers. The launch of the website was made possible by the joint efforts of ISDHF, Cayman Islands Ministry of Tourism and the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism.

Located 480 miles south of Miami in the quiet western Caribbean, this trio of tiny islands is a premier destination for discriminating travelers, honeymooners and families. World renowned for its beaches and diving spots, and ranked as the world's fifth largest financial center, the Cayman Islands offer exciting recreational opportunities along with friendly, high quality, modern service.
