Town of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea
Town of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea
Lauderdale-By-The-Sea is the most popular spot for beach diving in Florida! Known as Florida's Beach Diving Capital, snorkelers are always surprised at the abundance of sea life they see on a coral reef that's just 100 yards off the beach throughout the 2.4 mile length of the entire Town. Even prettier reefs are located a 10 minute swim further out.
The Town and its great diving is being featured this month (April 2014) on ScubaNation TV on Fox Sun Sports.
The Town is home to two wrecks, the Guy Harvey artificial reef in 140 feet, and SS Copenhagen, a 19th Century British steamship that wrecked in May 1900 a mile offshore in 25 feet of water. Florida designated the Copenhagen as an Underwater Archaeological Preserve in 1994. With an estimated 10,000 annual visitors, it's the most popular underwater preserve in Florida. The Copenhagen wreck site was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.
