The Dardanelles Strait, connecting the Mediterranean and Marmara seas, is a historical treasure trove. Here, the Gallipoli Historical Underwater Park offers more than a dozen dive sites, including artifacts dating back to 480 BCE as well as pristine World War I wrecks. The divers in this photo are observing one of the many intact cannons on the German cruiser SMS Midilli (aka Breslau), sunk in 1918 and resting at a depth of 243 feet. The site was restricted until two years ago, which means it is largely untouched and unseen by divers.

Need To Know

The park can be dived throughout the year, but the best conditions are found in late spring (April to May) and late summer (August to September). More information can be found at divinggelibolu.com.
