AQUA LUNG TITAN

The Titan was a Testers Choice during this year’s reg test. Test divers loved its smooth, quiet operation and scored it very good for dryness and ease of breathing in all positions. The second stage is lightweight and features a soft polyurethane cover that gives just the right amount of stiffness to the purge. The Venturi control is ergonomic and effective. The first stage features two HP and four LP ports. When tested on an ANSTI breathing machine, we found that this reg boasts an excellent work of breathing, even when pushed far below recreational diving depths.

ATOMIC AQUATICS BC2

Atomic’s BC1 jacket turned heads with its high-quality design and rock-solid performance. The BC2 takes the same spare-no-expense approach to the form and function and applies it to a back-inflation BC that emphasizes comfort and control. Constructed with double-laminated, polyurethane-coated fabric and corrosion resistant metals, this piece of dive gear is built to last and is dry practically as soon as it leaves the water. Other features include quilted padding and adjustable lumbar support, a ratcheting Cam-Lok tank band and integrated weights.

BEUCHAT VOYAGER XL

This large-capacity, lightweight roller bag weighs just a little over 7 pounds and has an internal volume of 137 liters (or 30x18x15 inches). The bag opens wide for easy access and features a set of elastic compression straps to hold everything in place. Divers can easily organize smaller items with three mesh zippered compartments, one of which can be accessed without opening the bag. The back of the bag uses a rugged, semi-rigid EVA shell for protection and the sides and front are made of tough ripstop material. The bag features a hidden add-a-bag strap and removable backpack straps for increased versatility.

CRESSI OTTERFLEX 5 MM

The Otterflex was a Testers Choice during this year’s 5 mm wetsuit test and provides great thermal protection at a modest price. Cressi’s Water Stop System uses a band of stretchy liquid seal to form a ring just inside the wrist and ankle cuffs. Though only about 3/8 inch (10 mm) wide, the unique seals proved very effective for keeping water entry to a minimum and very easy to get on and off. These seals, and equally effective neck and zipper closures help keep the Otterflex nice and warm. The suit uses thinner neoprene in the arms and ankles to maintain flexibility and a natural range of motion.

CITIZEN PROMASTER AQUALAND BN20037-03E LIMITED EDITION

This dive watch doesn’t need winding or a battery, that’s because it runs on Citizen’s light-powered eco-drive technology. The 46-millimeter stainless-steel case features Duratec pink gold highlights. The watch is limited to 6,000 pieces worldwide with a special 30th anniversary caseback and strap extender. The watch displays current dive depth up to 80 meters/260 feet with a maximum depth memory and features a one-way rotating elapsed timing bezel, an auto-start dive mode and a rapid ascent alarm. Luminous materials are used on the hands and marking. The Aqualand is depth-rated to 200 meters/660 feet.

HOLLIS MESH DUFFLE BAG

This tough gear bag is made of durable laminated nylon mesh. Measuring 14x13x25 inches, it’s a little on the short side, but manages to hold a fair amount of dive gear without becoming bulky or unmanageable. The top carry handles, adjustable shoulder strap and nylon handgrips sewn into each end provide plenty of grip for handling. A 4-inch wide mesh panel runs along the bottom of the bag, and provides good drainage and ventilation for airing out wet items during transit. The interior features a retainer clip and a small zippered accessory pocket.

INNOVATIVE SCUBA CONCEPTS MASK AND FIN HOLDER

This clever device is basically two loops of 1-inch nylon webbing with buckles and a clip to attach it to your BC. It frees you from carrying your mask and fins in your hands by attaching them to your BC. It may seem simple (it is), but the convenience it offers is so great that the mask and fin holder was named a Best Buy during this year’s scuba diving accessory test. We found it to be especially useful during shores dives with long, rough walks to the water. It’s available with a gate clip or a snap bolt, in 10 color options.

TOVATEC MERA

This combination of dive light and HD video camera is the recipient of ScubaLab’s first-ever Innovation Award and is a great option for divers who want to share videos of their underwater escapades with friends, but don’t want the expense or hassle of a traditional underwater camera rig. Simply point the flashlight and hit record to capture 1080p video and 4 mega-pixel stills. The flashlight can operate independently of the camera and has a 12-degree spot beam and a 120-degree wide-angle beam, both with two power settings. It can run for up to an hour and 30 minutes while using the light and camera simultaneously.

MAC SPORTS COLLAPSIBLE WAGON

While you may not consider a wagon to be a piece of dive gear, we’ve begun to include one (or several) of these bad boys on almost every dive trip. With a weight limit of 150 pounds and a 20-by-32-inch bed, they certainly take the work out of lugging tanks, weights and gear back and forth. The telescoping handle tubes, like the rest of the frame, are steel and sturdy enough to pull hard. The cart also folds up flat in seconds, making it easy to stow in the trunk of a car. OYMPUS TOUGH TG-6

The TG-6 is compact, waterproof on its own down to 50 feet and capable of capturing high-quality, 12-mega-pixel images and 4K videos. Pleasing ergonomics and an array of accessories make it suitable for a range of topside and underwater activities. The TG-6 is very similar to the previous model, but has added a number of updates that will be of interest to divers including three separate underwater white-balance modes and controls that make microscope mode, focus stacking and focus bracketing more readily accessible for underwater shooters.

SCUBAPRO GALILEO HUD

This head up dive computer can be mounted to any dual lens mask and allows you to check your tank pressure, no-deco time, depth, heading and more without having to move your focus away from the task at hand. The computer screen sits right against the lens at the corner of the diver’s field of view, but clever optics make it as easy to read as if it were a laptop screen sitting three feet away. While always visible, the little screen is hardly noticeable. Like your nose, it remains practically invisible until you need to “look” at it.

SCUBAPRO X-TEK NECKLACE

This necklace allows you to keep your reg close, a convenience that most recreational divers leave to the tech crowd. Some silicone necklaces tend to go positive in salt water, but this model’s simple bungee construction means it won’t be floaty in the ocean. An adjustable loop allows you to snug the necklace down tightly onto your reg for security. It is easiest enough to make your own version with some bungee cord and knot-tying-know-how, but it’s hard to beat the that price for zero effort.

SEACURE CUSTOM MOUTHPIECE

This moldable mouthpiece is designed to provide a comfortable personalized fit for every diver. It is also longer than the standard mouthpiece, allowing it to contact all of a diver’s teeth for a more secure hold. The molding process is incredibly simple (essentially dip it in hot water and bite down, repeat if necessary) and the mouthpiece can be remolded again and again. While any dive can use it, the SeaCure is especially handy for folks who often experience uncomfortable mouthpieces or dive-related jaw-fatigue. Mouthpieces are available in several sizes to accommodate most second stage regulators.

SEIKO PROSPEX SRPD23

This special edition dive watch features a blue wave patterned dial, and the end of the second hand is shaped like a shark’s fin. The watch uses an automatic movement with manual winding capabilities. It has a screwdown crown and caseback, and is water-resistant to 660 feet. Luminous material has been used on the hands and markers. The dial has a date window at the three o’clock position. The rotating one-way elapsed timing bezel helps keep track of dive time, and the stainless-steel bracelet features a hidden strap extender for use when diving with thick exposure gear.

SHEARWATER TERIC

This Teric combines everything Shearwater knows about intuitive operation, readable screens and customizable options and packs them into a sleek air-integrated watch. The four-button operation is logical and simple with clear on-screen prompts. SUBMERSIBLE SYSTEMS SPARE AIR

This compact redundant gas supply gives divers an extra bit of breathing during an out-of-air emergency. Available in two compact sizes that hold volumes of 3 and 6 cubic feet of air (roughly 57 and 114 surface breaths), the Spare Air easily attaches to most BCs with the included holster and safety leash. For travel, the on-demand regulator can be removed from the tank and then easily reassembled at the destination. The Spare Air can be filled using a standard scuba cylinder and the included fill adapter. Nitrox options are available.

TUSA PARAGON

This high-end mask is constructed of three distinct layers of polyurethane, metal and polycarbonate to create a seriously tough frame. This jumbo hanger features a built-in waterproof fan for drying out wetsuits and drysuits. The high-power fan can dry a really damp suit in an hour or two, but is also capable of completely drying a flooded drysuit overnight. The hanger is rated for 100 pounds and features a 15-foot power cord.
