Underwater Photography: California Sheephead in a Kelp Forest, Catalina Island, California

Casino Point Sheephead
Davide Vezzaro
I was lying on the bottom of this famous site (Casino Point off Catalina Island), waiting for action to come to me, when a couple of California sheephead approached. The kelp forest provided the ideal dark background, and as I waited for the fish to be in front of the dome, the male pushed the female away. Luckily, I was ready for it and got the action shot.
HOW I GOT THE SHOT: I used a Canon EOS 5D in a Seacam housing, Canon 14mm f/2.8L II USM lens, and two Sea & Sea 300 strobes. ISO 100, 1/50, f/5.6.
